Prysm Note for debt payoff

Debt payoff is a long game with little feedback, which is why people lose momentum. The useful thing a tool can do is make the remaining balance visible and shrinking, without pretending the process is faster than it is.

What matters here

  • One item per debt with the balance
  • Payment recorded against the debt, not as an expense
  • A monthly check on total remaining
  • A note with the rate and the minimum
  • A projection once the plan is stable

Setting it up honestly

Record each debt with its real balance and interest rate. Leaving out the expensive one because it is uncomfortable is the most common way a payoff plan starts wrong.

Choosing an order

Highest rate first saves the most money; smallest balance first gives faster wins. Both work. Pick one and stop re-deciding every month, because switching orders restarts the motivation cycle.

Keeping the record

Record payments as they happen so the balance is current. A number that only updates when you remember to update it stops being a source of motivation.
