What is natural language task entry?

Classic task entry asks you to fill in fields: title here, date there, list in a dropdown. Natural language task entry collapses that into one sentence, and the app does the parsing. It sounds cosmetic. It is actually the difference between capturing something and deciding to capture it later.

What matters here

  • One sentence instead of several form fields
  • Dates and lists inferred from ordinary wording
  • Faster capture, especially on mobile
  • Editable afterwards if the guess is wrong
  • Works alongside manual entry when you prefer it

The cost of a form

Every field is a small decision. Multiply that by the number of things you capture in a day and the friction adds up. People start batching capture to avoid it, and batching is where things get forgotten.

How the parsing works

The app looks for the recognizable parts of a request: an action, a time reference, maybe a subject. What it cannot infer it leaves for you. The goal is a good first draft, not a perfect autopilot.

Where it helps most

Mobile capture benefits most, because typing on a phone is slow. It also helps with batch entry, where you write several lines at once and the app splits them into separate tasks.
