What is a recurring task?

Recurring tasks are for work that is genuinely identical each time: paying rent, watering plants, the Monday review. They differ from a habit, which is about frequency and streaks rather than a specific piece of work.

What matters here

  • Set the schedule once
  • Each completion creates the next occurrence
  • Edits can apply to one cycle or all of them
  • Missed cycles should not silently pile up
  • Ends on a date, or when you stop needing it

Recurring task or habit

If the point is to build a behaviour over time, a habit tracker fits better. If the point is to get a specific thing done every month, a recurring task fits, because completion is what matters.

Managing the pile up

A recurring task that was missed three times should not create three overdue copies. The useful behaviour is one live occurrence, with the option to skip a cycle without guilt.

Choosing the rhythm

Weekly and monthly cover most cases. Daily recurrence is often a sign the item should be a habit or simply part of a routine rather than a task on a list.
